Drive modes on '22 Premier

I drive a 2022 Chevy Traverse premier and this is about drive modes. I mostly drive in fwd mode to save on fuel, but I've started switching into awd more often during rainy trips just for peace of mind and I can't say I've noticed a huge difference in handling, but I haven't pushed it too hard either, at some point I tried the off road mode once on a gravel access road and yeah then it felt a little more responsive, but hard to tell if it was just throttle mapping or something deeper going on with the awd system, I haven't had much use for tow/haul mode yet, but planning to hitch up a small trailer this summer so I'll be testing that soon
How much of these drive mods are actually functional or is it just software tweaking

I've driven a '22 Traverse Premier too, and yeah most modes just tweak throttle and shifting. In the rain, AWD gave me a bit more grip confidence, especially pulling out from stops. Off-road mode felt tighter on gravel, but it's more about how the traction control and AWD react than any major drivetrain change. Towing mode definitely helped when I hauled a pop-up camper last summer, it held gears longer and felt more stable on inclines

It's definitely more than just software tweaking! The different modes, like AWD and Off-Road, actually change how the power is distributed to the wheels and adjust things like the traction control and stability control systems. In AWD, the system is actively monitoring for slip and will send power to the rear wheels when needed, giving you that extra sense of security. The Off-Road mode takes it a step further by often locking the front and rear axles to a certain degree, allowing for more consistent power delivery and a more aggressive throttle response, which is what you likely felt. For tow/haul mode, it will adjust the transmission's shift points to keep the engine in its power band and reduce shifting, making it much easier to pull a load. So, they're definitely functional and designed to optimize the vehicle's performance for specific conditions.

Okay, so no hate, but not noticing any difference means you either aren't pushing hard enough or you haven't found yourself in a situation where the AWD system had to save you and that's actually a good thing. I've driven cars hard in my life and that AWD drive helps out a lot especially when driving on snow and ice and I guess you'll see the difference this winter if you meet those conditions.
